Crime Watch Scanner is a multi-function application to facilitate Salinas and surrounding area local news and scanner feeds. I am excited to release this version of my app as a way for members to contribute to our community and expand our feed database to include most of Monterey County Dispatch Feeds.
The app is super simple and makes it so you can listen to live feeds and post directly to Our Community Facebook group (and even browse Facebook)
What is it?
Crime Watch Scanner is a simple application that bundles most things we do. For example, we like to listen and post scanner events and news articles. I have included KSBW as well as KION as well as live dispatch audio of my SPD Dispatch feed, MSCO and Marina feeds in the apps. It also includes weather for Salinas.
Why Android and no iPhone?
I do hope to change this in the near future. The primary reasons for no iPhone app is the cost of an iOS Developer Account, and not owning an iPhone to develop and test the app on. In the meantime, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and computers can access my High Quality Salinas Feed directly here:

- Partner with other local crime watch communities that are friendly
- Set up more feeds for other cities within Monterey County (If you live in southern cities and would like to become a feed provider, please contact me and I can help getting you going)
What is Crime Watch Scanner Beta?
In an effort to ensure the app is functioning, I have enabled beta opt-ins for those that would like to help me discover issues and share those with me to ensure a stable release. This is completely optional and it will typically include new features and content not available on the stable release.
Crime Watch Scanner vs. Crime Watch Scanner Pro:
I have now released a Pro version that has 1 main difference, ads. I'd like to consider CWS Pro more of a donate version. The reasoning for this is to monetize the app. I feel that if Broadcastify makes revenue off of us, why not use that. If the application does succeed in revenue, this will give us funding to provide more feeds. If the community continues to grow and still bringing in revenue, I will start a non-profit organization to donate any unused funds to better our community, whether it be helping with funeral costs, helping programs that directly benefit our community, etc. I will also be 100% transparent in this regard. I will however always keep the free version available to all.
