Melaka is known for its unique history. History of Melaka begins when Parameswara, prince from Palembang were involved in the battle to seize the throne of the kingdom of Majapahit in the late 14th century.
Once defeated by Majapahit, he had run to Temasek for cover, which was then ruled by Siam. After being expelled from Temasek by invaders from Siam, in 1396, he and his followers retreated to Muar and later to Sungai Ujong before stopping at Bertam near the mouth of the river.
