وحوْلَ اختيار تونس كوجهةٍ لتصوير "الواق واق"، أوضح المخرج حجو: "اخترنا الشواطئ التونسية، حيث تتوفر كافّة الشروط التي تحقق فرضيّة العمل، والذي تبدأ أحداثه من غرق سفينة تقل مجموعة مهاجرين قبالة أحد الجزر النائية، وبعد عملية مسحٍ طويلة، شملت أيضاً الشواطئ السورية واللبنانية، من صيدا جنوباً إلى انطاكيا في أقاصي شمال الساحل السوري".
