How does this measuring application work?
It's based on Google's ARCore toolkit. Machine learning algorithms combine data from the device's sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope ...) with odometry, analyzing real-time camera video and using image details to scan the environment and determine the position and angle of the device.
Advantages:
- Measurements are possible in metric (meters, centimeters) or imperial units (feet, inches).
- The app measures distance horizontally (= on the ground) and vertically!
- There is no need to remove furniture from the room to measure. The app detects the intersection between the floor and the target, even if it is hidden.
- Some types of tiles may affect the accuracy of the measurement.
- Accuracy is not guaranteed.
- You can move the device during measurement to get closer to the target point for maximum measurement accuracy, even if it is not visible and is calculated by extrapolation.
