Ability Connect is promoted and developed by the University of Alicante with the support of the Vodafone Spain Foundation application.
Ability Connect is a free application that allows real-time communication of multiple devices via Bluetooth without an internet connection though can also be used via Wi-Fi or data Moviles and has advanced features display content to suit the needs of various groups of people with disabilities.
There are two modes: mode user server can create sessions and enter the text you want to transmit in real time, and client mode, one or more users can view the list of active sessions and can be connected to receive content retransmitted by a server in real time.
Displaying content is adaptable and there are two types: the standard can set the background color and text to improve contrast and select the size and type of font to improve readability. In advanced mode the content will appear word by word, being able, in addition to the standard display parameters, set the rate of appearance thereof.
Among other use cases, this application can be used to:
- A volunteer / classmate / notetaker you may be taking notes of what happens on the board or what the teacher says and in real time the student can read the content you are entering the other person.
- Language translation: the translator writes in the sending application and the person can see or read in real time in your language.
- To subtitles events: a person can write on the sending device what is said and the receiving device, which can be connected to a screen or other display device, can be followed in real time also what is being talked about .
