Phoenix Wars begins with the hatching of your phoenix. Throughout the game you fight many enemies and slowly grow stronger and evolve.

Aside from the gameplay, the Phoenix Wars' main purpose is to get people to become more sociable. In this game you can get more phoenixes by transferring them from one phone to another via NFC. NFC works only if the two phones physically touch. Therefore, meeting friends in real life, who also have the game, is the only way to expand your nest outside of the characters included by default.
