Paleo-Phoenician is the oldest verified alphabet in the wider sense of the term "alphabet".
The Paleo-Phoenician ultimately derived from Egyptian hieroglyphs and became one of the most widely used writing systems, spread by Phoenician merchants across the Mediterranean world, where it was adopted and modified by many other cultures.
Its local variant - The Paleo-Hebrew alphabet which resembles a lot was the script used in the historic kingdoms of Israel and Judah by Israelites.
The Greek alphabet (with its descendants Latin, Cyrillic, Runic, and Coptic) also derives from the Phoenician.
