STONE Pietre Egizie è un’applicazione che, attraverso la selezione di 50 reperti, conservati presso il Museo Egizio di Torino, permette al visitatore di osservare graniti, porfidi, calcari, arenarie, scoprendone la natura, la composizione, la provenienza e i motivi per cui sono stati scelti dagli antichi Egizi.
L’app è organizzata in base all’importanza storica ed artistica dei reperti, ma anche e soprattutto sulla tipologia di roccia impiegata .
In Egitto, infatti, le rocce ornamentali rappresentano un’enorme ricchezza materiale, storica e culturale, e questo antico popolo ha saputo sfruttare al meglio ciò che la natura gli ha offerto. Gli Egizi hanno scelto tra le varie tipologie di rocce presenti nel loro territorio quelle con le caratteristiche migliori sia da un punto di vista estetico sia meccanico. La ricchezza di questa gamma di materiali la si può apprezzare al meglio visitando una qualsiasi collezione egizia, che ne raccoglie gli esempi più disparati e nel quale l’Egitto si presenta come uno “stato fatto di pietra”.
L’eredità materiale scultorea e architettonica degli antichi Egizi testimonia un aspetto fondamentale della concezione del mondo di questa civiltà, ossia il concetto di sopravvivenza nell’aldilà. Questa volontà di restare immutati nel corso del tempo la si può leggere attraverso la costruzione di templi, obelischi, statue ed edifici funerari con il loro corredo di sarcofagi, ma principalmente nella scelta di adoperare materiali estremamente durevoli e adatti a dare corpo a questa aspirazione all’eternità come quelli lapidei.
Tra i tanti musei al mondo che conservano e mostrano preziosi reperti dell’antico Egitto, Torino ha l’onore di ospitare il secondo museo più importante al mondo, il Museo Egizio. I contatti tra il Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra dell’Università di Torino e il Museo Egizio hanno permesso di realizzare questo progetto, che vuole offrire al pubblico una chiave di lettura alternativa per leggere le opere esposte, creando un legame tra sapere classico e sapere scientifico.
Tale lavoro vuole essere un prezioso riferimento per archeologi, egittologi, curatori di musei e geologi oltre che, naturalmente, per chiunque tragga piacere dalle meravigliose pietre naturali che decorano l’antico mondo dei Faraoni.

The sculptural and architectural material heritage of the ancient Egyptians bears witness to a fundamental aspect of the conception of the world of this civilization, namely the concept of survival in the afterlife. This will to remain unchanged over time can be read through the construction of temples, obelisks, statues and funerary buildings with their sarcophagi kit, but mainly in the choice to use extremely durable materials suitable to give substance to this aspiration eternity like stone ones.
Among the many museums in the world that preserve and show precious finds from ancient Egypt, Turin has the honor of hosting the second most important museum in the world, the Egyptian Museum. The contacts between the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Turin and the Egyptian Museum have allowed to realize this project, which wants to offer the public an alternative reading key to read the exhibited works, creating a link between classical knowledge and scientific knowledge .
This work aims to be a precious reference for archaeologists, Egyptologists, curators of museums and geologists as well as, of course, for anyone who derives pleasure from the marvelous natural stones that decorate the ancient world of the Pharaohs.
