The grounding system in electrical and electronic equipment is to provide protection for the entire system. For more details, the following are some of the functions of grounding:
For safety, grounding functions as a conductor of electric current directly to the earth or ground when there is leakage of insulation or sparks on the surge, for example a grounding cable that is attached to the body / chassis of an electronic device will prevent us from being electrocuted when the iron leak and stick to the ironing body.
In a lightning rod installation, the grounding system functions as a conductor of large electric currents directly to the earth. although the nature is the same, but the installation of a grounding cable for home installation and grounding for lightning protection installation must be separate.
As protection of electronic equipment or instrumentation so that it can prevent damage due to voltage leaks.
Grounding in the electronic world serves to neutralize defects (noise) caused by either poor power, or the quality of nonstandard components.
When the grounding cable functions as a conductor, the device that detects residual current or leakage current is the ELCB. This ELCB is a protection of electrical installations as a deterrent to leakage currents. For more details, see the review on "ELCB Safety Current Leaks".
The grounding symbol on basic electronics as well as on the electrical system is illustrated in the figure below. This symbol is needed when drawing electrical circuits or electronic circuits. The following are some symbols that explain the meaning of grounding in technical drawings.
Color of Grounding Cable
The grounding cable has a characteristic that is a green or yellow green strip cable. The color provisions of this grounding cable are regulated in PUIL 2011, namely:
542.3.4 MOD (3.18.3.4) Earthing conductors must be green-yellow according to 5210.2
5210.2 MOD Use of yellow-green camouflage colors
Yellow-green stripes should only be used to mark earthing conductors, protective conductors, and conductors that connect equipotential bonds to the earth.
This grounding cable is connected by how to plant a metal pipe into the ground which will be installed at each terminal of the socket. The following is an example of the color of the cable used for grounding.
